Luya Daoren is a mysterious roaming adept who appears when the Zhou camp faces powers its resident immortals cannot easily defeat in Investiture of the Gods. Calling himself a wanderer of Western Kunlun, he arrives without a fixed school retinue and departs when a task is finished. His ability to turn into a long rainbow lets him escape treasures such as Zhao Gongming’s Golden Dragon Scissors.
To destroy Zhao Gongming, Luya gives Jiang Ziya the Nailhead Seven-Arrows Book. A straw figure bearing Zhao’s name is placed on a platform with lamps at head and feet; Jiang performs the rites three times each day for twenty-one days, weakening the victim’s spirit until the final arrows kill him. The method is indirect, secret, and more ominous than an ordinary duel.
Luya’s other great treasure is a gourd containing the Immortal-Slaying Flying Blade. When opened, a white ray supports a small winged, eyed form that fixes an enemy’s spirit; at the command for the treasure to turn, the target is beheaded. Luya uses it against the immortal-bodied Yu Yuan and tries it against Kong Xuan before the five-colored light forces him away. After the Myriad Immortals Formation he gives the gourd to Jiang Ziya for later dangers, and the blade eventually helps end the campaign against the Plum Mountain spirits.
