Taibai Jinxing is the Jade Emperor’s elderly envoy and one of the most persistent advocates of negotiation in Journey to the West. When the Dragon Kings and the underworld accuse Sun Wukong, Taibai advises Heaven to recruit the new immortal instead of immediately sending an army. He travels to Flower Fruit Mountain, passes through the armed monkeys, and personally escorts Wukong through the Southern Gate.
The first appointment makes Wukong Keeper of the Heavenly Horses, a post whose low rank provokes his rebellion. After heavenly forces fail to subdue him, Taibai again recommends an amnesty and proposes granting the title Great Sage Equal to Heaven without military command. He returns as envoy, guarantees the promised title, and leads Wukong back to court. The plan postpones war but also shows the limits of solving the monkey’s ambition through offices alone.
During the pilgrimage Taibai continues to intervene as a warning figure. Near Lion Camel Ridge he appears as an old man and tells Wukong about the three demon kings and the immense population of monsters ahead, then vanishes as a breeze. He later recalls the earlier recruitments when Wukong seeks help in Heaven. White hair, star official’s robes, a ceremonial tablet, and calm speech fit an adviser whose principal abilities are swift celestial travel, mediation, and timely intelligence rather than battlefield force.
