The White Bone Demon is a corpse spirit haunting White Tiger Ridge in Journey to the West. Hoping to eat Tang Seng and gain the benefits believed to come from his holy flesh, she avoids a direct contest with Sun Wukong and instead relies on transformation, deception, and the monk’s compassion.
She first appears as a young woman carrying food, then returns as an old mother searching for her daughter, and finally as an elderly father looking for both of them. Wukong sees through every disguise with his fiery eyes and strikes each false body. Twice the demon abandons a corpse and escapes; on the third attack she is killed and returns to her true form, a heap of white bones marked as the White Bone Lady.
Tang Seng cannot see the transformations and believes Wukong has murdered three innocent people. Zhu Bajie reinforces the misunderstanding, and the monk finally drives Wukong back to Flower-Fruit Mountain. The demon’s lasting impact comes not from defeating Wukong in combat, but from using three carefully chosen disguises to break the trust between master and disciple.
