Ao Bing is a son of Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea, in Investiture of the Gods and an important figure in the chain of events surrounding Nezha’s early life. After Nezha causes turmoil near Chentang Pass, conflict between him and the Eastern Sea Dragon Palace rapidly escalates.
When a sea-patrolling yaksha is killed by Nezha, Ao Bing goes out to confront him. As the third prince of the dragon clan, he fights Nezha directly but is defeated and killed by the young warrior’s magical weapons.
After killing Ao Bing, Nezha removes his dragon sinew, provoking the fury of Ao Guang. The Dragon King then seeks redress against Li Jing’s family and draws other dragon kings into the dispute, turning a violent encounter into a much larger supernatural crisis.
Ao Bing appears only briefly, but his death is essential to the famous sequence often remembered as Nezha’s disturbance of the sea. It directly drives the Dragon King’s retaliation, deepens the conflict between Nezha and his father, and pushes the story toward its later dramatic events.
