Twelve Golden Summons

十二道金牌

The Twelve Golden Summons are the repeated urgent orders that recall Yue Fei at the height of his campaign in The Story of Yue Fei. As a cultural symbol, they condense victory interrupted by court command and loyalty turned into political tragedy.

Chapter 59 says Yue Fei receives twelve golden summons in succession. His officers urge resistance, but he treats imperial command as binding, transfers responsibility, and starts back toward the capital. The number emphasizes relentless pressure rather than twelve different magical tablets.

Their visual form should remain that of formal urgent dispatches marked by court authority. Their meaning lies in accumulation: one command might be questioned, while twelve leave no room for delay. The object binds Yue Fei’s obedience to the destruction of the military future he was close to achieving.
