Yue Fei
Overview
Yue Fei is the most celebrated general of the Southern Song resistance against the Jin and one of the foremost embodiments of loyalty and martial valor in Chinese culture, often compared in later tradition with Guan Yu. A formidable warrior, Yue Fei wields the Liquan Spear and is virtually unstoppable on the battlefield. The “Yue Family Army” under his command is renowned for its strict discipline and fighting prowess, winning repeated victories against the Jin forces. Yue Fei is ultimately recalled amid the peace policy pursued by Emperor Gaozong and Qin Hui and executed on the infamous charge of “perhaps there is” (mo xu you). Over the centuries, he became an enduring symbol of loyalty, courage, and national spirit, and also entered popular religious tradition under such honorifics as Yue Wumu, Prince Wumu, and Prince Yue Zhongwu.
