Shin Armor protects the lower leg between knee and ankle. Its identity comes from this position, regardless of whether it appears as a plate, splint, wrap, or segmented guard.
It extends protection down the limb while leaving the knee and foot able to move. Paired examples also strengthen the vertical rhythm of an armored figure.
Its lower-leg identity remains distinct from shoulder protection and from Foot Armor over the instep.
CG Reconstruction Interpretation
The Owner’s reconstruction places Shin Armor in the same mechanical family as Wrist Braces: a hard inner layer of lamellae, plates, or hard leather is wrapped with leather. Side windows may reveal this inner construction. Upper and lower transverse straps cooperate with front and rear longitudinal tightening.
Tightening, the shape of the leg, and the geometry of the ankle and foot keep the component in place. These local restraints provide stability without treating the lower leg as another part hanging from the main torso suspension system.
Shin Armor and Foot Armor can meet around the ankle while retaining separate identities and movement. The account describes the approved CG reconstruction and allows other historical materials and fastening arrangements.
