Zhang Guifang is the Shang commander sent to suppress Xiqi in Investiture of the Gods. He marches with Feng Lin as his vanguard and carries an art as dangerous as his spear: by calling an opponent’s full name and ordering him to fall, he can disturb the victim’s souls and send him from the saddle. The spell gives the royal army early victories and forces Jiang Ziya’s camp to confront a power that ordinary courage cannot answer.
Nezha reveals the art’s boundary. Because his body was remade from lotus rather than born through ordinary flesh and blood, he does not possess the same vulnerable arrangement of souls. Zhang Guifang calls his name without effect, and the fight turns back to weapons. Nezha strikes him with the Qiankun Ring and breaks his arm. Even after this reverse, the Shang commander continues the expedition, later receiving the Four Saints of Nine Dragon Island as reinforcements while the struggle around Xiqi widens into a contest of immortals and treasures.
The campaign ultimately fails, but Zhang Guifang does not quietly withdraw from royal service. He remains bound to the Shang cause and dies after its forces are broken. At the final investiture he becomes the Mourning Gate Star. His story joins military command to a supernatural rule with a precise weakness: against normal men, a spoken name can end a duel before steel decides it; against Nezha, whose body stands outside that order, the same certainty collapses and exposes the general to defeat.
