The Golden Cymbals are one of the Yellowbrow Demon’s principal treasures in Journey to the West. At the false Thunderclap Monastery, they close around Sun Wukong and turn a paired golden treasure into an inescapable prison.
The Trap at the False Thunderclap Monastery
Yellowbrow throws the cymbals as Sun Wukong attacks. The two halves close around him, leaving the other pilgrims exposed to capture inside the false monastery.
A Prison That Answers Transformation
Sun Wukong enlarges and reduces his body, but the enclosing space changes with him. The treasure defeats escape by strength or transformation and keeps the action centered on containment.
Kang Jinlong Opens a Way
The Twenty-Eight Mansions answer Sun Wukong’s call for help. Kang Jinlong inserts his horn between the cymbals so Sun Wukong can reduce himself and escape through a narrow opening.
Part of Yellowbrow’s Treasure System
The Golden Cymbals and the Human Seed Bag perform different roles. One encloses a single opponent; the other gathers whole groups. Together they define Yellowbrow’s control of the battle.
