Kang Jinlong is a member of the Twenty-Eight Mansions in Journey to the West. He receives an individual role when Sun Wukong is trapped inside the Golden Cymbals at Little Thunderclap Temple.
The Golden Cymbals
The cymbals seal Sun Wukong inside a hard metal enclosure. Ordinary force cannot open them, so the crisis requires a star official with a body suited to making a narrow passage.
The Horn as a Rescue Tool
Kang Jinlong presses his horn into the joined rim of the cymbals. Sun Wukong bores through the horn and escapes along it, turning the official’s dragon-linked body into the route of rescue.
An Individual Action
The rescue gives Kang Jinlong a specific deed of his own: he uses his horn to open a path into the Golden Cymbals so that Sun Wukong can escape.
