Overview

Huang Feihu is one of the most important warrior figures in Investiture of the Gods, a powerful lord who originally holds the Shang title of Prince Wucheng, Defender of the Realm. Driven by a family tragedy into open conflict with King Zhou, he leads his household retainers out of the Shang capital and defects to Xiqi, becoming a major commander in the Zhou campaign against the Shang. A seasoned warrior who combines the qualities of both general and champion, Huang Feihu stands at the center of the celebrated “Crossing the Five Passes” episodes in the first half of the novel. After his death in battle, he is deified as the Great Emperor of the Eastern Peak, Mount Tai, becoming an important deity associated with the Five Sacred Peaks and the realm of the dead.
