Body Armor is the main defensive covering of the torso, comparable in scope to a cuirass. It organizes the central mass of an armor ensemble and supports many attached components.
Depending on period and representation, it may be built from lamellae, scales, plates, textiles, leather, or composite layers. The subject does not prescribe one material.
In the CG vocabulary Body Armor names the complete torso structure formed by Front Body Armor and Rear Body Armor. Chest Armor remains an additional chest component attached to the front half, not an alternative name for that half or for the whole cuirass.
CG Reconstruction Interpretation
Front and Rear Body Armor connect through shoulder straps and left and right side connections to form an independently stable torso foundation. It can carry additional front and rear components without relying on the Armor Support Vest to remain in place.
Body Armor and the vest may connect, but they are separate stable foundations. Independent components are organized around them through draping, suspension, fastening, binding, and attachment—the practical sequence expressed by pi, gua, xi, shu, and fu (披、挂、系、束、附).
