Chen Qi

陈奇

Chen Qi is a Shang provisioning general whose hidden art changes the defense of Qinglong Pass in Investiture of the Gods. He rides a fire-eyed golden beast, carries a Demon-Subduing Pestle, and commands Flying Tiger troops equipped with hooks and ropes. His decisive power is the yellow breath cultivated within his body: when released from his mouth, it scatters the souls of mortal opponents and drops them from the saddle for his soldiers to bind.

That art brings down Deng Jiugong and later Huang Tianlu, giving a supply officer the battlefield weight of a principal defender. Tuxingsun is also felled, though Deng Chanyu’s Five-Light Stones smash Chen Qi’s mouth and back and allow her husband to escape. The most memorable confrontation comes when Zheng Lun arrives. Zheng Lun’s white light bursts from his nostrils with a sound; Chen Qi’s yellow light issues from his mouth. Both men fall at once, and their soldiers can only rescue their own commander. Even without magic, they fight through another day without a victor.

During the night assault on Qinglong Pass, Chen Qi meets Zheng Lun again amid the fighting. Surrounded by Zhou commanders, he is struck by Nezha’s Universe Ring and then speared through the flank by Huang Feihu. Death completes the parallel begun in their duel. At the investiture, Jiang Ziya names Zheng Lun and Chen Qi together as the Heng and Ha guardians who protect the western mountain gate and its sacred treasures. Former enemies are therefore remembered as a permanent pair, each defined by the breath that once made armies fall.
