The Four Symbols Formation is a subsidiary formation within the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation, defended by Jinguang Xian.
After Qiushou Xian and Lingya Xian are defeated, Jinguang Xian emerges from the formation to issue another challenge.
Jinguang Xian Defends the Formation
Jinguang Xian carries a treasured sword and fights Cihang Daoren. After several exchanges, he retreats into the Four Symbols Formation, and Cihang follows.
Innumerable Magical Treasures
The novel explicitly describes the formation as rich in transformations and filled with magical treasures in motion.
Where the Taiji Formation emphasizes walls of weapons and the Two Principles Formation emphasizes opposed forces and thunder, the Four Symbols Formation has a more varied rhythm built from complex changes and many treasures.
Cihang Breaks the Formation
Cihang Daoren enters and reveals a dharma body. Recognizing that victory is impossible, Jinguang Xian attempts to withdraw but is restrained by the Three-Treasures Jade Ruyi. The formation then falls.
Original Form as the Golden-Haired Hou
After his capture, Jinguang Xian reveals his original form: the Golden-Haired Hou. He later becomes Cihang Daoren’s mount.
The formation therefore has high relationship value across Jinguang Xian, Cihang Daoren, the Guanyin tradition, and the Golden-Haired Hou.

CG should not mechanically add the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise unless a later canon decision or direct source warrants it. This page concerns the battle formation defended by Jinguang Xian inside the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation.
