Golden-Haired Hou

金毛犼

The Golden-Haired Hou is the original form revealed after Jinguang Xian is defeated in the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation.

Jinguang Xian first defends the Four Symbols Formation and fights Cihang Daoren with a sword. After his capture, he reveals the Golden-Haired Hou and becomes Cihang’s mount.

Jinguang Xian’s Original Form

In human form, Jinguang Xian is a Jie adept. Defeat reveals his true body: the Golden-Haired Hou.

The hou is a fierce divine beast in Chinese traditional imagery. It should not be reduced to an ordinary dog, nor should it simply duplicate a lion.

Relationship with Cihang and Guanyin

The Golden-Haired Hou is given to Cihang Daoren as a mount. Later Buddhist, popular, and Journey to the West traditions continue to connect the Golden-Haired Hou with Guanyin’s mount.

This gives the Subject a high-value relationship chain: Jinguang Xian, the Four Symbols Formation, Cihang Daoren, Guanyin, and the Golden-Haired Hou.

Keep It Distinct from Sai Taisui

Sai Taisui in Journey to the West is closely connected with Guanyin’s Golden-Haired Hou, but CG should distinguish the divine beast or mount Subject from the named demon-king identity used in that particular story.

The two should not be collapsed into a single page.

CG Visual Language

  • golden or yellow-gold hair
  • ferocity
  • a hybrid of canine, leonine, and divine-beast traits
  • a body large enough to carry an immortal
  • never an ordinary dog
  • a silhouette clearly distinct from the Green-Maned Lion

The design should establish a creature with its own identity rather than another version of a lion.
