The Golden Staff is Lei Zhenzi’s striking weapon in Investiture of the Gods. Together with his wings, it turns flight into a means of entering combat from above.
Chapter 21 shows Yunzhongzi teaching him the staff before he goes to aid his father. In chapter 78, Lei Zhenzi rises on his wings and brings the golden staff down against Peng Zun, pursuing him when he turns away.
The staff joins learned martial action to an extraordinary body. Its golden name does not make it Sun Wukong’s size-changing weapon or establish an independent lightning power; its distinctive force comes from Lei Zhenzi’s wing-borne use.
