Hong Haier, the Red Boy, is a powerful demon king in Journey to the West. Known as the Holy Infant Great King, he is the son of the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan and rules from Fire-Cloud Cave in the Withered Pine Ravine of Mount Hao.
Although he appears as a child, Red Boy possesses formidable supernatural power. When Tang Sanzang’s party passes through the region, he devises a plan to capture the monk and intends to eat him. Sun Wukong and his companions repeatedly confront him but are driven back by his mastery of the Samadhi Fire.
Unable to defeat Red Boy directly, Sun Wukong seeks the help of Guanyin. The bodhisattva eventually subdues the demon and takes him away, transforming him into the Child of Good Fortune.
Red Boy combines youthful appearance with the identity of a dangerous demon warrior. His fire powers, aggressive temperament, and strong combat imagery make him one of the most memorable young antagonists in Journey to the West. Within CG, he can remain a Person Subject for now while retaining future potential for the Deity layer.
