Erlang Shen’s Divine Canine Companion
The Howling Celestial Dog is one of Erlang Shen’s best-known companions. It is not passive equipment but a living supernatural canine that follows its master and can assist in pursuit and combat. Erlang Shen already possesses several strong visual identifiers; the dog adds the active relationship of divine warrior and canine helper, making him easier to distinguish from a generic armed guardian.
No Fixed Breed
Recognition begins with a dog whose connection to Erlang Shen is visually clear, not with the display of a particular modern breed. Coat, size, ears, tail, collar, armor, and supernatural effects remain unlocked. The animal does not need invented monster anatomy to demonstrate that it belongs to a mythic setting. Future CG artwork may choose a restrained, formidable, or agile treatment that fits the overall character design.
Recognition through Combination
Together with the Celestial Eye and Three-Pointed Double-Edged Blade, the dog forms a powerful recognition system for Erlang Shen. A dog alone does not identify the figure. Recognition becomes reliable when the forehead eye, signature polearm, upright martial presence, and canine companion reinforce one another. Viewers should notice whether the dog actively responds to Erlang Shen, without assigning it an unsupported independent biography or catalog of powers.
