Jiang Menshen is a powerful fighter closely associated with the story of Wu Song in Water Margin. He is portrayed as physically formidable and skilled in wrestling and hand-to-hand combat.
Shi En originally controls the establishment at Happy Grove, but Jiang Menshen uses force to take it from him. After Wu Song is exiled to Mengzhou and receives generous treatment from Shi En, he agrees to help recover the property.
Wu Song then travels to Happy Grove to challenge Jiang Menshen. Drinking along the way and deliberately provoking a confrontation, he eventually meets Jiang Menshen at the establishment.
In the resulting fight, Wu Song defeats him with superior martial skill. The episode becomes one of Wu Song’s most famous exploits, commonly remembered as “Wu Song Drunkenly Beats Jiang Menshen.”
Jiang Menshen later becomes connected with forces involved in further plots against Wu Song. Within Celestial Generals, his clear physical and martial identity makes him an important Person Subject connecting Wu Song, Shi En, and the Happy Grove episode.
