Luan Tingyu is an important warrior on the side of the Zhu Family Village in Water Margin and is also the senior martial brother of Sun Li. A highly capable fighter and military instructor, he becomes one of the strongest defenders opposing Liangshan during the campaigns against the village.
During Liangshan’s repeated attacks on the Zhu Family Village, Luan Tingyu serves as both a combatant and a key organizer of its defense. He fights Liangshan warriors directly while also helping train and command the forces protecting the stronghold.
Sun Li later enters the village under the appearance of a government officer from Dengzhou and uses his martial connection with Luan Tingyu to gain trust. This infiltration allows Liangshan to coordinate an internal and external assault that ultimately breaks the village’s defenses.
Although Luan Tingyu fights against Liangshan rather than joining it, he possesses a clear martial identity. His connection with Sun Li and his central role in the Zhu Family Village battles make him an important character within that major Water Margin episode.
