Wei Dingguo, nicknamed the “Divine Fire General,” is a Liangshan hero in Water Margin who begins as a government commander at Lingzhou. He serves alongside Shan Tinggui, the “Sacred Water General,” and the two are sent to oppose Liangshan.
Wei Dingguo is associated with fire-based martial imagery, creating a deliberate contrast with Shan Tinggui’s connection to water. Together, the pair forms one of the novel’s clearest matched sets of opposing military officers.
During the fighting with Liangshan, Shan Tinggui is subdued first while Wei Dingguo continues to resist. Under military pressure and through the efforts of figures such as Guan Sheng, Wei Dingguo eventually joins Liangshan as well.
After entering the brotherhood, he continues to be paired with Shan Tinggui as one of the contrasting “Water” and “Fire” generals. Following the imperial amnesty, Wei Dingguo participates in later campaigns and is eventually killed during the war against Fang La.
