Pan Jinlian is the wife of Wu Dalang in Water Margin and one of the best-known female characters in the story of Wu Song. Her relationships with Wu Dalang, Ximen Qing, and Wu Song form a major domestic tragedy within the novel.
After marrying Wu Dalang, Pan Jinlian later encounters Ximen Qing and begins an affair with him. As the risk of discovery grows, their relationship develops into a plot against her husband.
Wu Dalang is injured during his conflict with Ximen Qing. Pan Jinlian subsequently participates in poisoning him and attempts to conceal the circumstances of his death.
When Wu Song returns, he investigates his brother’s death, gradually gathers evidence, and determines the involvement of Pan Jinlian and Ximen Qing. He ultimately takes revenge for his brother.
