Yang Bajie is a daughter of Yang Jiye and an independent woman warrior in Generals of the Yang Family. When Liao champions challenge the Song force at Jinyang, Ma Li Zhaoji kills a Song officer and presses toward the formation. Bajie mounts a blue horse and rides out before the assembled commanders, identifying herself through action rather than waiting for a formal place in the army.
She meets the Liao warrior for only a few bouts before throwing a red cord that catches him and pulls him from the saddle. Song soldiers rush forward to bind the captive. Kou Zhun asks who the victorious woman is; Bajie answers that she is the eldest daughter of Lord Yang, and he orders her name entered for merit. Her sister Yang Jiumei then defeats the next avenging challenger, making the sequence a paired display in which each woman receives a separate opponent and victory.
Later Yang-family traditions keep Bajie among the armored women who answer frontier crises beside She Saihua, Mu Guiying, Jiumei, and household retainers. Versions vary over her personal name and later campaigns, so the Jinyang feat supplies the firmest basis: blue horse, practical armor, red capture cord, and confident mounted posture. The weapon is unusual because it wins by control rather than killing, matching a young general who secures public recognition in her first clearly narrated contest.
