Zhang Qing
Overview
Zhang Qing, nicknamed the “Featherless Arrow,” is a Liangshan hero in Water Margin famous for his extraordinary skill with thrown stones. Originally a commander at Dongchang Prefecture, he is able to strike opponents from horseback with remarkable speed and accuracy. When Liangshan attacks Dongchang, Zhang Qing uses his stones to wound a succession of Liangshan officers, repeatedly preventing powerful warriors from closing with him. The technique becomes more than an ordinary hidden-weapon skill; it is the defining martial signature of his character. After a series of clashes, Zhang Qing is eventually captured and joins Liangshan. He becomes one of its mounted commanders and continues to use both his horsemanship and stone-throwing ability in later military operations. Following the imperial amnesty, Zhang Qing accompanies the Liangshan armies through their campaigns and is eventually killed during the war against Fang La. Although he joins the brotherhood relatively late, his distinctive fighting method gives him an immediate and memorable place among its warriors.
