Dong Ping is one of the great martial champions of Liangshan in Water Margin, known as the “Double-Spear General.” Originally a military commander of Dongping Prefecture, he is a superb mounted warrior who wields a pair of long spears with exceptional speed and ferocity in battle. Dong Ping is distinguished not only by his twin-spear technique but also by his handsome appearance and elegant, dashing manner, celebrated in the phrase, “The heroic double-spear general, the romantic lord of ten thousand households.” The combination of a graceful, striking appearance with an aggressive and highly effective fighting style gives Dong Ping one of the most distinctive visual identities among the Liangshan warriors. He ultimately ranks among Liangshan’s “Five Tiger Generals.”
