The Taiji Formation is one of the principal subsidiary formations inside the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation. It is defended by Qiushou Xian.
It does not function as a separate long-running campaign earlier in the story. Its identity is bound to the larger formation and to Qiushou Xian’s battle.
Qiushou Xian Defends the Formation
Qiushou Xian comes out of the Taiji Formation with a sword and challenges the Chan adepts. Yuanshi Tianzun orders Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun to break the formation.
The two first exchange sword blows outside. After several rounds, Qiushou Xian retreats into the formation and activates it.
Walls of Iron and Bronze
Once active, the Taiji Formation becomes intensely enclosed. The novel compares it to walls of iron and bronze, with layered blades creating an oppressive space from which escape seems impossible.
Its danger is therefore more than an abstract magical effect. It produces confinement and the physical pressure of massed weapons.
Breaking the Formation with the Pangu Banner
Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun enters and uses the Pangu Banner to hold the formation in check. He then reveals his dharma body. Qiushou Xian can no longer resist and is captured with the Demon-Binding Rope, bringing the formation down.
Relationship with the Green-Maned Lion
After his capture, Qiushou Xian is forced back into his original form: the Green-Maned Lion. The Taiji Formation, Qiushou Xian, and the Green-Maned Lion therefore form a natural relationship chain.

The space inside the formation should feel as though it has itself become a weapon.
