Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun is one of the Twelve Immortals of the Chan tradition in Investiture of the Gods. He resides at Yunxiao Cave on Wulong Mountain and is the master of Jinzha. Within the novel he first appears as an independent Chan immortal whose instruction, captures, and array-breaking actions contribute directly to the Investiture narrative.
His strongest identifying treasure is the Dunlong Stake, also described as the Seven-Treasure Golden Lotus. When activated, its golden rings restrain an opponent. He is also associated with a sword and a demon-binding rope. The text supplies unusually useful appearance details—double topknots, a water-pattern robe, and a silk sash—without requiring later artists to invent an entire fixed costume.
Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun uses the Dunlong Stake against Nezha and Wang Mo and takes part in breaking the Heaven Absolute Array. In the later array battles he overcomes the Taiji Array and subdues Qiu Shouxian, after which the green-haired lion becomes part of his later narrative imagery.
Later traditions connect this figure with the development of Manjushri identity. This foundation records that correspondence briefly but preserves Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun as the current independent Investiture person. The later Buddhist identity does not replace or merge the novel's character record.
