Qiushou Xian

虬首仙

Qiushou Xian is the Jie-tradition adept who guards the Taiji Array within the Ten Thousand Immortals Array.

His episode is concentrated in the Ten Thousand Immortals Array: he enters with a sword, guards the Taiji Array, fights Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun, and finally reveals the original form of a blue-maned lion.

The Taiji Array

Qiushou Xian comes out of the array with sword in hand and openly challenges the Chan-tradition adepts. Yuanshi Tianzun sends Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun to break the formation.

The two first exchange sword blows before Qiushou Xian retreats into the Taiji Array and activates it. The interior becomes like walls of iron and bronze, crowded with weapons and carrying a sealed, oppressive force.

Battle with Wenshu

Wenshu uses the Pangu Banner to suppress the Taiji Array and manifests a transformed body. Qiushou Xian cannot overcome him and is captured with the Demon-Binding Rope.

Qiushou Xian first fights with a sword and then withdraws into the Taiji Array, where he continues the contest with Wenshu.

The Blue-Maned Lion

After his capture, Nanji Xianweng compels Qiushou Xian to reveal his original form. He rolls on the ground and becomes a magnificent blue-maned lion. Yuanshi Tianzun then assigns the lion as Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun’s mount.

The episode connects Qiushou Xian with the later image of Wenshu’s lion mount.

From Array Guardian to Lion Mount

Qiushou Xian’s defeat joins three parts of the same episode: his sword fight with Wenshu, the breaking of the Taiji Array, and the revelation of the blue-maned lion form that is afterward assigned to Wenshu as a mount.
