Wanyan Shou

完颜寿

Wanyan Shou is the Jin general charged with defending Shepherd City late in The Story of Yue Fei. He enters the final northern campaign with a nine-ring great saber and immediately proves that the city is not guarded by a ceremonial officer. Ouyang Congshan challenges him and is killed after a sustained mounted fight, forcing the younger Yue commanders to reckon with a defender who can punish an incautious attack.

Di Lei and Yu Lei take turns against him as the battle widens. Wanyan Shou withstands the pressure and keeps the pass contested rather than collapsing before the heroes’ reputations. His clearest measure comes when Lu Wenlong rides out. Lu Wenlong is one of the novel’s foremost spear fighters, yet Wanyan Shou meets him for forty to fifty bouts before his defense finally opens. That duration, after earlier combats on the same field, establishes him as a serious late-war champion without inventing a formal ranking the novel never gives.

Lu Wenlong eventually drives through and kills him, and Shepherd City can no longer rely on its strongest blade. Wanyan Shou’s appearance is brief, but it gives the last campaign resistance worthy of the reunited Yue heroes. He is neither a scheming courtier nor a supernatural obstacle. His entire weight is earned in one hard defense: a victory over Ouyang Congshan, successive resistance to the younger generation, and a long final duel against an opponent whose excellence makes defeat honorable rather than trivial.
