You Junda is a figure of the outlaw world in the Sui–Tang heroic tradition and is closely associated with Cheng Yaojin. In stories surrounding the seizure of imperial treasure, You Junda and Cheng Yaojin participate together in planning and action. These episodes help move Cheng Yaojin from a relatively ordinary local figure into the wider heroic world of the late Sui rebellions.
As the Wagang forces grow, You Junda becomes part of the larger network of heroes. He receives less attention than central figures such as Qin Qiong or Cheng Yaojin, but his role as an early connector gives him importance within the formation of the Sui–Tang brotherhood.
