Yuchi Gong

Overview

尉迟恭（字敬德）是隋末唐初名将，也是中国民间最著名的武将形象之一。他早年从军，后归附李世民，以勇猛善战著称，并成为唐初重要功臣。在后世小说、戏曲和民间传说中，尉迟恭的勇将形象不断强化，并常与秦琼成对出现。两人后来成为流传最广的门神组合之一，其披甲持兵的形象大量见于年画、壁画、雕塑及寺庙建筑装饰。

Yuchi Gong, courtesy name Jingde, was a renowned general of the late Sui and early Tang periods and later became one of the best-known martial figures in Chinese popular culture. After an early military career, he joined Li Shimin and became famous for his courage in battle, eventually emerging as an important founding general of the Tang dynasty. Novels, traditional drama, and popular legend further magnified his image as a formidable warrior, frequently pairing him with Qin Qiong. Together they became one of China’s most widespread pairs of Door Gods, depicted as armored warriors in New Year prints, murals, sculpture, and temple architecture.
