Deng Chanyu

邓婵玉

Deng Chanyu is a female warrior in Investiture of the Gods and the daughter of the commander Deng Jiugong. She first enters the story fighting alongside her father against Xiqi and proves to be a capable combatant, especially through her use of the Five-Colored Stone, a magical weapon with which she injures several opposing warriors.

During the fighting against Xiqi, Deng Chanyu encounters Tuxingsun, the earth-traveling disciple known for moving beneath the ground. Tuxingsun becomes attracted to her even while they remain on opposing sides of the conflict.

As the military situation changes and Deng Jiugong eventually joins Xiqi, Deng Chanyu’s own position changes as well. Through a series of arrangements, she becomes Tuxingsun’s wife and enters the Xiqi camp together with her father.

Deng Chanyu thereafter fights on the side of the campaign against Shang. Her identity combines several distinctive elements: she is a female battlefield commander, a wielder of a recognizable magical weapon, and a character whose change of allegiance becomes inseparable from her marriage to Tuxingsun.
