Guiling Sacred Mother is one of Tongtian’s upper-generation disciples in Investiture of the Gods. Her story is driven by fierce loyalty to her school. When Guangchengzi returns the crown of the dead Fire Spirit Sacred Mother, Guiling attacks him in anger. His Fantian Seal forces her to reveal the giant-turtle form beneath her cultivated human body, and the humiliation deepens the hostility that leads toward the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation.
There she enters battle with a sword and the Sun-and-Moon Pearl. Jusun meets her, but retreats after she casts the pearl, and Guiling pursues him until Jieyin blocks the way. Her treasure cannot break the blue lotus that rises from his light. Jieyin then casts his prayer beads, knocks her down, and exposes the turtle form again. He stops Jusun from killing her and orders White Lotus Boy to take custody of the captive.
The reprieve becomes a cruel accident. When the boy opens a small bag to collect her, a swarm of mosquitoes escapes, scents blood, and settles over her head and limbs. Before it can be recalled, the swarm drains Guiling Sacred Mother into an empty shell; the same insects then fly west and consume three grades of the lotus throne. Her end is among the novel’s bleakest reversals. She is strong enough to rout an immortal and require a patriarch’s intervention, yet she dies not in a formal duel but through a careless release after the fight is already over.
