The Heavenly Gate Formation is the vast Liao array that Mu Guiying helps the Yang family overcome in Generals of the Yang Family. It joins battlefield engineering, ritual knowledge, geography, and command into a campaign rather than a single duel.
The Yang-family narrative introduces the formation through reconnaissance and plans for attacking its linked gates. Mu Guiying enters the campaign with specialized knowledge and takes command in the fighting. The text later describes the breaking of the many Heavenly Gate sub-formations as the decisive achievement.
The formation should be imagined as an organized military landscape of gates, camps, banners, and mutually supporting sections. Its identity does not depend on one fixed modern diagram. Its narrative importance comes from requiring intelligence and coordinated leadership, making Mu Guiying’s authority visible at army scale.
