Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal

长耳定光仙

Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal is a disciple of Tongtian Jiaozhu in Investiture of the Gods. Before the Myriad Immortals Formation, Tongtian entrusts him with the Six-Soul Banner, a weapon prepared against Laozi, Yuanshi Tianzun, Jieyin Daoren, Zhunti Daoren, King Wu, and Jiang Ziya. He is ordered to display it at the decisive moment.

When Tongtian calls for the banner amid the battle, Dingguang does not obey. After seeing the protective radiance and relic light surrounding the opposing teachers and their disciples, he concludes that the Jie teaching has gone astray. He hides the Six-Soul Banner, slips out of the formation, and takes shelter at the reed-canopy camp.

Dingguang then presents the banner and its six inscribed names to Laozi, Yuanshi, Jieyin, and Zhunti. At their command he shakes it, but the targets remain unharmed. He subsequently follows the Western teaching. His choice over the Six-Soul Banner, rather than a long record of combat, defines both his break with Tongtian and his later allegiance.
