Jieyin Daoren is one of the two leaders of the Western teaching in Investiture of the Gods, acting alongside Zhunti Daoren. Zhunti invites him east when the Immortal-Execution Formation requires four great teachers to break it. Jieyin joins Laozi, Yuanshi Tianzun, and Zhunti against Tongtian Jiaozhu, helping bring down the four-gated formation.
He returns for the Myriad Immortals Formation, where Tongtian challenges him over his earlier intervention. Jieyin protects himself with the radiance of three relics and says that he has come to guide those who have affinity with the West. During the battle he opens the Universe Bag and receives many immortals from the defeated Jie teaching.
Jieyin’s importance lies in both combat and aftermath. He stands as Zhunti’s fellow leader, cooperates with Laozi and Yuanshi at the great formations, and offers a new destination to some survivors of the shattered Jie teaching. The novel presents these actions within its own Western teaching and does not require later religious identities to explain his role.
