Sun Quan, courtesy name Zhongmou, is the son of Sun Jian, the younger brother of Sun Ce, and the principal ruler behind the establishment of Eastern Wu. After Sun Ce’s death, Sun Quan inherits the Jiangdong territories and gradually consolidates the power of the Sun family.
When Cao Cao advances south after dominating northern China, Sun Quan faces the critical decision of whether to submit or resist. Advisers and commanders including Lu Su and Zhou Yu argue for resistance, and Sun Quan ultimately chooses alliance with Liu Bei against Cao Cao.
At the Battle of Red Cliffs, the allied forces defeat Cao Cao, blocking his attempt to unify the realm and helping establish the political conditions for the later Three Kingdoms. Major Wu figures such as Zhou Yu, Lu Su, and Gan Ning all belong to the military and political network centered on Sun Quan.
Sun Quan continues to rule Jiangdong for many years and eventually declares himself emperor of Wu. His defining role is that of ruler and political-military leader rather than a front-line champion. Within Celestial Generals, a Person Subject allows him to connect the many Wu warriors and major events surrounding the Three Kingdoms struggle.
