Tang Huai is one of Yue Fei’s early sworn companions and later a commander of the Yue Family Army in The Story of Yue Fei. His connection with Yue Fei and figures such as Wang Gui begins in their youth and continues when they enter military life.
As Yue Fei builds his army and wages repeated campaigns against the Jin forces, Tang Huai becomes one of the officers serving under him. He is less often placed at the center of spectacular individual feats than warriors such as Yue Yun or Gao Chong, but he remains a steady member of Yue Fei’s military circle.
During the prolonged wars against Jin, Tang Huai participates in the army’s operations alongside Wang Gui and other long-serving followers. His relationship with Yue Fei is therefore both military and personal: he is a subordinate commander, but also one of the companions whose bond with Yue Fei predates the rise of the Yue Family Army.
Tang Huai helps preserve an important layer of the Yue Fei narrative—the circle of early brothers and companions who accompany Yue Fei from youth into war. His role connects the hero’s personal friendships with the later structure of his army.
