Wuyun Xian is one of Tongtian’s most formidable disciples in the final sectarian battles of Investiture of the Gods. He joins Jinguang Xian and other adepts in confronting Guangchengzi after the death of Fire Spirit Sacred Mother, then returns in the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation as guardian of the Grand Ultimate Formation. His place is among the named defenders nearest the center of Tongtian’s last host.
Chijingzi enters the formation to meet him, but within only a few exchanges Wuyun Xian draws the Primordial Hammer and knocks him down. Guangchengzi rushes in to save his fellow disciple and fares no better: after several bouts, a second hammer strike drops him as well. Guangchengzi escapes toward the northwest, and Tongtian orders Wuyun Xian to pursue and bring him back. Defeating two of the Twelve Golden Immortals in succession is one of the clearest measures of any Jie disciple’s strength.
Zhunti appears on the road and blocks the pursuit. Wuyun Xian attacks with his sword, but blue and white lotuses rise from Zhunti’s mouth and finger to hold the blade. The western patriarch then uses the Six-Purity Bamboo, and a water-and-fire boy lowers it like a fishing rod. Wuyun Xian reveals his original form as a golden-whiskered ao fish, is caught, and is ridden away to the Eight-Virtues Pool. His removal requires a teacher of the highest order; until that intervention, neither of the great Chan immortals he faces can remain standing before his hammer.
