Gao Youqian is one of the Four Saints of Nine Dragon Island in Investiture of the Gods. He has cultivated for a thousand years beside Wang Mo, Yang Sen, and Li Xingba before Wen Zhong summons them to support Zhang Guifang. Gao rides a spotted leopard, carries a sword, and keeps the Mixed-Origin Treasure Pearl. The unearthly mounts terrify the Zhou horses, allowing the four companions to disrupt the opposing cavalry before their treasures are even released.
When battle is joined, Gao casts the Mixed-Origin Pearl and strikes Longxuhu in the neck. At the same time the other saints hit Jiang Ziya, Nezha, and Huang Feihu, and the coordinated blows force the Zhou side back. Their advantage ends when Zhou reinforcements and treasures enter the fight. After Wang Mo is killed, Gao advances with Yang Sen and Li Xingba to avenge him rather than abandon the field.
Jiang Ziya meets the renewed attack with the Divine-Beating Whip and strikes Gao on the head, killing him. Yang Sen falls soon afterward, and Li Xingba is later slain on the road. In the final investiture, however, Jiang Ziya names all four companions Sacred Grand Marshals charged with guarding Lingxiao Hall. Gao’s account is short but complete: he descends out of fellowship, wins a moment of real success with his pearl, dies while answering a companion’s death, and receives office beside the same three immortals.
