Wang Mo is one of the Four Saints of Nine Dragon Island in Investiture of the Gods, and one of the important Jie-tradition adepts whom Wen Zhong recruits for the Shang army.
When the four saints first arrive at the Shang capital, the novel gives them a forceful group portrait. Wang Mo wears a one-shaped headcloth and a water-pattern robe. His face is as round as the full moon, and he is extraordinarily tall. Together with the other three, he immediately carries an otherworldly presence.
He is not a secluded contemplative. After accepting Wen Zhong’s invitation, he enters the war directly, riding a strange beast, carrying weapons, and fighting before the lines.
The Bian
Each of the Four Saints rides a different beast: Wang Mo the bian, Yang Sen the suanni, Gao Youqian a spotted leopard, and Li Xingba the zhengning.
When the four beasts charge together, their hostile aura terrifies ordinary horses, throws the cavalry into disorder, and even causes Jiang Ziya to fall from his mount.
Pursuing Jiang Ziya
The Four Saints quickly gain the advantage. Wang Mo and Yang Sen pursue Jiang Ziya after he is wounded. Wang Mo continues the chase on the bian and uses a treasure to strike him down, briefly bringing about one of Jiang Ziya’s ordained deaths.
This makes Wang Mo more than a background member of the group. He acts with a clear leading presence and directly drives one of the episode’s decisive reversals.
Fighting Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun
As Wang Mo prepares to take Jiang Ziya’s head, Wenshu Guangfa Tianzun intervenes. Wang Mo immediately turns to face him. The encounter is the Four Saints’ first direct confrontation with a senior Chan-tradition adept.
Wang Mo’s appearance is brief but violent: he charges with a strange beast, pursues Jiang Ziya, strikes him down, and then meets Wenshu in direct combat.
Investiture
After death, Wang Mo and the other three adepts of Nine Dragon Island are invested together as the Four Saintly Marshals.
