Yang Jiye, also known as Yang Ye, was the founding figure of the Yang Family Generals and the enduring symbol of the Yang family’s tradition of loyalty and sacrifice. A veteran commander who spent much of his career defending the northern frontier, he was renowned for his martial prowess, battlefield experience, and resolute character. He won repeated victories around Yanmen and became so feared and respected that the Liao forces called him “Yang the Invincible.” During the Yongxi Northern Expedition, he was surrounded at Chenjiagu, fought until he was captured, and ultimately died after refusing food, sealing his reputation as a martyr of unwavering loyalty. Throughout his life, Yang Jiye embodied the ideals of defending the realm, serving with absolute loyalty, and refusing to yield even in death. His spirit of courage and devotion was carried on by later generations, including Yang Yanzhao and Yang Wenguang, giving rise to the enduring legend of the Yang Family Generals, a lineage remembered for its loyalty, valor, and sacrifice.
