Zhang Liao

Overview

张辽是曹操麾下最著名的将领之一，也是三国时代公认的名将。他早年辗转于丁原、董卓、吕布等势力，吕布败亡后归附曹操，此后屡立战功。张辽最著名的战绩是在合肥以少量兵力突击孙权大军，威震江东，“张辽止啼”也成为后世广为流传的典故。《三国演义》进一步强化了他沉着勇猛、善于临阵决断的名将形象，使他成为曹魏阵营中兼具统帅能力与个人武勇的代表人物。

Zhang Liao was one of Cao Cao’s most celebrated generals and is widely regarded as one of the great commanders of the Three Kingdoms era. Early in his career, he served under several powers, including Ding Yuan, Dong Zhuo, and Lü Bu, before joining Cao Cao after Lü Bu’s defeat. His most famous achievement came at Hefei, where he led a small force in a daring assault against Sun Quan’s much larger army and struck fear throughout Jiangdong. His reputation became so formidable that the saying “Zhang Liao stops children from crying” entered later popular tradition. Romance of the Three Kingdoms further developed his image as a calm, courageous, and decisive commander, making him one of Cao Wei’s foremost figures combining battlefield leadership with personal martial prowess.
