Seven Monsters of Mount Mei

梅山七怪

The Seven Monsters of Mount Mei are a group of demon warriors in Investiture of the Gods, led by Yuan Hong. The group consists of Yuan Hong, Wu Long, Chang Hao, Zhu Zizhen, Yang Xian, Dai Li, and Jin Dasheng.

Seven Different True Forms

Each member has a distinct animal origin: white ape, centipede, serpent, boar, goat, dog, or ox. These forms shape their transformations, attacks, and visual identities, while their human appearances allow them to enter the battlefield as officers and armed fighters.

A Dispersed Fighting Group

The seven do not enter the story in one single formation. Yuan Hong, Wu Long, and Chang Hao appear first, while the others arrive in succession. Their shared Mount Mei origin and service in the same campaign establish the group without erasing each member’s separate actions.

Conflict at Mengjin

Their final campaign brings them into repeated conflict with Jiang Ziya’s army and especially Erlang Shen. The group should therefore be treated as a relationship hub linking seven individual Subjects, not as a single character or as a substitute for later traditions concerning Mount Mei deities.
