Shi Luanying is the daughter of Shi Shan, commander of Jinnan Pass, in The Story of Yue Fei. When Niu Tong wounds her father during Yue Lei’s passage south, she rides out to avenge him. She is a trained mounted fighter, not merely a commander’s daughter kept behind the walls, and her most dangerous weapons are stone ingots cast with enough accuracy to break an attack from horseback.
Niu Tong underestimates her and is struck down by the thrown stones; other attackers also fail to master the pass by straightforward force. The defense collapses through betrayal instead. Shi Shan’s adopted sons Shi Feng and Tang Ying turn against him and help Yue Lei’s party enter. Shi Shan is killed, the garrison changes sides, and Shi Luanying is seized in the confusion. Her battlefield victory cannot protect her once authority inside the pass has broken apart.
The aftermath is deliberately grim. Niu Tong carries Shi Luanying to camp, forces sex on her, and declares that they are now husband and wife. Yue Lei then sends her away with the other women attached to the younger commanders. Later retellings often reduce this to a colorful warrior marriage, but the chapter gives her no meaningful choice. Her story therefore contains both martial force and severe loss of agency: she defeats the man who attacks her home, yet the fall of the pass hands that same man control over her future.
