Yue Lei is a son of Yue Fei in The Story of Yue Fei and an important figure in the continuation of the Yue family’s struggle against the Jin. After Yue Fei, Yue Yun, and others are killed, the family is devastated, and Yue Lei’s life becomes inseparable from the injustice suffered by his father and elder generation.
In the aftermath of Yue Fei’s death, the surviving members of the Yue family endure displacement and hardship. As political circumstances change, Yue Fei is eventually vindicated and the family’s honor is restored, allowing the next generation to return to the military world of the story.
Yue Lei subsequently carries forward the anti-Jin cause associated with his father. The later campaigns surrounding him extend the Yue Family Army narrative into a second generation, transforming the story from the tragedy of one commander into a broader family heroic tradition.
Yue Lei’s significance therefore lies not only in being Yue Fei’s son, but in serving as an heir to the Yue family’s military mission. Through him, the narrative connects Yue Fei’s death, the restoration of the family’s honor, and the continuation of the war by his descendants.
