Yunxiao is the eldest of the Three Xiao sisters in Investiture of the Gods, living on Three Immortals Island with Qiongxiao and Bixiao. She is more cautious than her sisters and initially warns Zhao Gongming not to misuse the Golden Dragon Scissors. After his death, grief and pressure draw all three sisters into the Shang camp.
Riding a Blue Luan, Yunxiao leads the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation and wields the Hunyuan Golden Dou. Its golden light captures Yang Jian, Jinzha, Muzha, and eventually the Twelve Golden Immortals, throwing them into the formation and stripping away their accumulated cultivation. Jiang Ziya’s Apricot-Yellow Banner blocks the treasure, while Randeng escapes rather than face it.
Only the arrival of Laozi and Yuanshi Tianzun breaks the formation. The sisters are defeated, and Yunxiao dies in the confrontation with the two leaders. At the investiture she, Qiongxiao, and Bixiao receive the title of the Responsive Immortal Maidens and authority connected with the Hunyuan Golden Dou. Her restraint before battle and overwhelming conduct within it give her tragedy as well as power.
