牛皋是《说岳全传》中最具个性和喜剧色彩的岳家军猛将之一。他粗豪直率、勇猛诙谐，是一员福将，也是岳飞自幼相识的结拜兄弟，在小说中又承担着联络多位英雄人物、推动故事发展的重要角色。牛皋惯使双锏，经常在紧张激烈的战争中插科打诨，为全书增添鲜明的喜剧色彩。他最终“气死金兀术，笑死牛皋”的结局成为广为流传的民间俗谚，也构成整部传奇极具戏剧性的终局，使牛皋成为贯穿《说岳全传》始终的关键人物之一。

Niu Gao is one of the most distinctive and humorous warriors of the Yue Family Army in The Story of Yue Fei. Rough-spoken, straightforward, courageous, and irrepressibly funny, he is a warrior blessed with extraordinary good fortune and a sworn brother who has known Yue Fei since youth. He also serves as a key figure linking many of the novel’s heroes and driving its story forward. Wielding a pair of heavy maces, Niu Gao frequently brings comic energy even to the most intense scenes of warfare. His celebrated ending—“Niu Gao enraged Jin Wuzhu to death, then laughed himself to death”—became a popular saying and provides the entire saga with one of its most dramatic conclusions, confirming his place as a key figure throughout The Story of Yue Fei.
