Jin Wuzhu

金兀术

Jin Wuzhu is the Jin prince and chief invading commander in The Story of Yue Fei. Armed with the Golden Sparrow Axe, he leads northern cavalry across the Song frontier, pursues the imperial court, and repeatedly meets Song generals in personal combat as well as large battles. His first encounters with Yue Fei establish the central opposition of the romance: a forceful conqueror against the commander who will organize the Yue Family Army.

Wuzhu does not fight alone. He commands a succession of Jin warriors and depends on armored cavalry, linked-horse tactics, and prepared formations to break ordinary troops. Yue Fei’s officers answer those advantages with spear units, hook-and-sickle methods, ambushes, and disciplined counterattacks. The contest ranges through river crossings, captured cities, and the approach to Zhuxian Town; victories never remove Wuzhu permanently, so he remains the face of the invading power even after his best formations are defeated.

The later Yue Lei narrative keeps him in command against the sons and younger companions of Yue Fei. Guan Ling, Niu Tong, Lu Wenlong, and other heirs eventually confront the same axe-bearing prince their elders fought. Wuzhu’s armor, broad-bladed axe, guarded warhorse, and surrounding ranks of Jin cavalry give him a consistent silhouette. His persistence across generations makes him both a dangerous fighter and the military adversary around whom the Yue family story repeatedly regroups.
