Guan Ling is a young blade warrior in The Story of Yue Fei, introduced as the son of Liangshan hero Guan Sheng and an heir to the martial line associated with Guan Yu. At only twelve, he meets Yue Yun near his uncle Chen Kui’s estate and fights him through a dispute over a remarkable horse. The contest ends in recognition rather than bloodshed, and the two youths become sworn brothers.
Guan Ling uses a Green Dragon Crescent Blade and later rides the Red Hare Rouge Horse. The names deliberately echo Guan Yu, while his age and companions place him in a different generation and story. He offers the horse to Yue Yun after learning who he is, and promises to enter Yue Fei’s service when older. This early episode establishes generosity, pride in his blade skill, and a relationship that connects him to the Yue household before he reaches the main army.
In the later restoration campaign, Guan Ling rides with Yue Lei, Niu Tong, Lu Wenlong, Di Lei, and the younger war band. He challenges Jin Wuzhu and forces the veteran prince back after more than ten bouts before new enemies intervene. Red face, young features, green crescent blade, dark armor, and the red horse create a clear inherited silhouette, but his sworn brotherhood and service under Yue Lei give him actions distinct from both Guan Yu and Guan Sheng.
